Gallbladder, also known as biliary duct, is a small bile duct that is located in the gallbladder, a small organ located in the upper abdomen. Its main function is to carry bile, a yellowish-white liquid that helps with digestion, from the liver to the intestine. Gallbladder problems can arise due to various reasons, such as gallstones, which are small non-cystic stones that form in the gallbladder or bile ducts, leading to severe pain, bloating, and difficulty passing bile. Other gallbladder problems include inflammation, infection, and polyps, which are non-cancerous growths that can cause symptoms such as abdominal pain and jaundice. If left untreated, gallbladder problems can lead to complications such as cholecystitis, which is an infection of the gallbladder, or peritonitis, which is an infection of the peritoneal cavity. Therefore, it is important to seek medical attention if one experiences any symptoms of gallbladder problems.
