Gallstones
Gallstones, also known as biliary colic, is a common condition that affects the gallbladder, a small organ located in the abdomen, and can cause severe abdominal pain and discomfort. The gallstones are made of a hard material called bile salts, which can form in the gallbladder or the bile ducts. The most common symptom of gallstones is the sudden and severe pain that occurs when the gallstones move through the gallbladder or bile ducts. The pain can be described as a sharp, stabbing pain that is often on the left side of the abdomen. In addition to the physical pain, gallstones can also cause symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, and a loss of appetite. Treatment typically involves using medications to dissolve the gallstones, or using a procedure called cholecystectomy to remove the gallbladder. If left untreated, gallstones can cause severe complications such as cholecystitis, which is an infection of the gallbladder, or peritonitis, which is an infection of the peritoneal cavity. Therefore, it is important to seek medical attention if you experience symptoms of gallstones to receive proper diagnosis and treatment.
