Mastitis
Mastitis is a common ailment in lactating dairy animals, such as cows and sheep, that can cause severe, chronic inflammation of the breast tissue. It is characterized by pain, tenderness, and swelling in the breast, and can also cause affected areas to become warm and red. Mastitis can be caused by a bacterial or fungal infection, or by factors such as poor nutrition, stress, or hormonal changes. Treatment typically involves using antibiotics to treat the underlying cause and supportive measures to alleviate symptoms. Preventing mastitis requires a combination of good hygiene practices, such as regular cleaning of the cow's udders and teats, and providing a clean, comfortable living environment.
