TTC26: A Potential Drug Target and Biomarker for Intraflagellar Transport Protein 56 (ISOFORM 1)
Abstract:
Intraflagellar transport protein 56 (ISOFORM 1) is a protein that plays a crucial role in the transport of mitochondrial flagellum in the cytosol of eukaryotic cells. TTC26, a specific isoform of ISOFORM 1, has been identified as a potential drug target and biomarker for several diseases, including neurodegenerative disorders, cancer, and Inflammatory diseases. This article summarizes the current understanding of TTC26, its functions, and potential therapeutic applications.
Introduction:
Intraflagellar transport protein 56 (ISOFORM 1) is a member of the Kinesin-6 family, which is involved in the transport of various organelles, including mitochondrial flagellum in the cytosol of eukaryotic cells. ISOFORM 1 is a unique protein that has four distinct isoforms, each with a different N-terminus. TTC26, also known as ISOFORM 1-伪, is one of the isoforms that has been identified as a potential drug target and biomarker for several diseases.
Function and localization:
TTC26 is a 23-kDa protein that localizes to the cytosol of eukaryotic cells. It is composed of 156 amino acids and has a calculated pI of 9.97. TTC26 plays a critical role in the transport of mitochondrial flagellum in the cytosol of eukaryotic cells. It is research showing that TTC26 localizes to the
Protein Name: Tetratricopeptide Repeat Domain 26
Functions: Component of the intraflagellar transport (IFT) complex B required for transport of proteins in the motile cilium. Required for transport of specific ciliary cargo proteins related to motility, while it is neither required for IFT complex B assembly or motion nor for cilium assembly. Required for efficient coupling between the accumulation of GLI2 and GLI3 at the ciliary tips and their dissociation from the negative regulator SUFU. Plays a key role in maintaining the integrity of the IFT complex B and the proper ciliary localization of the IFT complex B components. Not required for IFT complex A ciliary localization or function. Essential for maintaining proper microtubule organization within the ciliary axoneme
